Robert Mackie at Horizons Art Gallery

Horizons Art Gallery will open its next exhibition, showcasing the diverse styles of artist Robert "Bob" Mackie. The opening will be on November 30th from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and the exhibition continues until December 11th at the Gallery located at 37 Mucurapo Road, St James from 9am - 5:30pm Mondays - Fridays and 9am - 1pm on Saturdays.

The theme of this exhibition is "Animalia." On display will be pieces in the cold enamelling technique known as cloisonne which is a method of surrounding coloured pieces with thin metal strips that are mounted on aluminium. Viewers will be pleased to see various animals presented in luminescent colours, shapes and sizes all executed in this technique.

Bob Mackie was born in Sunderland, England in 1938. As a young teenager, Bob moved to the Caribbean, first to Jamaica and later to Trinidad and Tobago where he settled, married his wife "Dina" and raised three children.

Bob lived in the Southern Caribbean (the place he still calls "home") for over forty years before migrating to Redondo Beach, California in the mid 1990's. The Caribbean influence is still very apparent in his work.

Bob has also maintained a separate professional career in Product Management, working in various manufacturing industries including: textiles, footwear, printing and plastics. Presently he is a designer and artist for the Tile Guild, Los Angeles.

An accomplished multi-media artist, Bob has held one-man exhibitions in Trinidad and Tobago for the past twenty years and has exhibited pieces throughout the Caribbean, the U.S.A. and London.
